In 2023 after an absence from Slot Car Racing, Don Railton initiated the build of a 145 foot long ISRA based 6 lane track at Glenbrook. Aided by fellow slot racers for the purpose of promoting our sport / hobby within the Franklin District for local residents to enjoy.
Rich History and Resurgence:
Slot cars were incredibly popular toys in the 1960s. Their striking resemblance to real vehicles and the ability for anyone to participate in racing made them a hit.
Although their popularity waned in the late '60s, slot car racing has made a triumphant comeback. Older generations revisit the pastime, while younger enthusiasts discover it for the first time.
How It Works:
Slot cars are miniature scaled automobiles powered by small electric motors.
They race on tracks with grooves or slots, each lane having its own groove.
The tiny blade or pin under the car fits into the groove, picking up electricity from the rails on the track.
A hand-held controller equipped with a plunger allows racers to control the vehicle’s speed.
Driving skills come into play as you navigate the track, adjusting speed around corners and accelerating on straight sections
Customization and Creativity:
Encourage creativity and imagination by allowing family members to customize their cars with paint, decals, and other decorations.
Rotate roles during race nights to ensure everyone gets a chance to participate and contribute to the event.
